Mission Statement: "I help people become the prime actors in their lives, instead of looking for someone to fix them or their issues."
"Since taking this Coaching Program I have been working with clients to develop clarity on what exactly they want in their lives and how to go about obtaining their desires for a different kind of life. I have been using various techniques from GROW's course work, specifically, "How to Motivate Your Clients to Change." To this end I have been working with clients to create their own personal vision. Once we have these ideas down, we discuss accountability and how to work through their obstacles and self-sabotages, which has been very helpful.
One of the primary ways I work with clients as a coach is to discuss accountability, and help them become the prime actors in their lives. This is very powerful and motivating and a wonderful way to work with resistance. It is truly a fantastic way of becoming stronger, more competent and trusting personal decisions. I've been using GROW's "5-Step decision making process," which is very helpful for the client's clarification.
My personal coaching has helped me to clarify where I am going in my life, taking charge of the changes I wish to see in my life, and understanding that while fear may always be present for me, I can experience the fear and still move forward. It is so helpful to have another person/coach who can not only guide me through my "stuff," but who is also there to hold me accountable.
I am writing a book ("Humiliation Trauma: The Deepest Loss") and I hope to support this book throug my own coaching. Although I have been a psychotherapist for over forty years, the profession has not allowed expansion beyond the confines of my licensure and the state I am licensed in -- New Mexico.
I am excited to begin working with clients beyond my own borders. I am also interested in pursuing my own coaching in order to help myself realize my goals. I'm excited to start this new career!"

"Back in January 2025, I decided to take a step that would end up reshaping how I think about personal development. I began working with Coach Scott Freda, a name many associate with sobriety-focused coaching. Oddly enough, I wasn't looking for help in that area. What drew me in was my curiosity—rooted in my background as a neuroscience graduate student. I was fascinated by the structure of his approach and wondered whether it could help me navigate some personal goals I had set for myself, goals informed by past mental health struggles. Since that first session, I've been meeting with Scott three times a week. These regular check-ins have provided not just structure but also an invaluable sense of accountability. His program, while not originally designed for someone like me, has proven incredibly adaptable and effective. Being on the receiving end of such impactful coaching stirred something deeper. more than 20 years working in Psychology, I found myself inspired to switch gears and become a coach myself.
The six hours of coaching I've provided so far for my certification have felt more like a privilege than a requirement. There's a kind of joy in watching someone gain clarity or confidence in real time, and I thrive on that connection. My clients often comment on the balance I strike between empathy and practical know-how—a blend I credit to my years in the field and my own journey of personal growth. What sets my coaching apart is my hands-on experience with executive functioning challenges. Over the years, I've helped countless individuals wrestle with things like disorganization, rigid thinking, or feeling paralyzed by big, abstract goals. My future coaching program will be specifically designed to tackle those hurdles. It'll focus on breaking things down into bite-sized tasks, fostering cognitive flexibility, and helping people stick to goals without getting overwhelmed. It's a methodical yet flexible approach, one that meets clients where they are.
Looking back, the decision to hire Coach Freda was less about immediate need and more about intellectual and emotional curiosity. That choice has since opened a door to a whole new way of helping others. Coaching, I've found, isn't just about offering advice or strategies. At its best, it's a partnership—a blend of encouragement, insight, and accountability. It holds up a mirror and hands you a map. And for me, that combination has been transformative."

Specialties: Coaching for addiction, men's issues
Mission Statement: "Assisting men on their journey to realize their true potential through purpose, curiosity and passion."
"When I found out that I was required to write an essay about one hour of coaching, I immediately thought “I don’t know what the heck to say”. As a substance use disorder counselor in California, i’ve done thousands of 1:1’s. I'll be speaking from two vantage points: 1) A client in therapy who is just trying to do his best in life as a father, husband, brother and son. 2) a counselor trying to make a positive impact in a world that has been brutalized by addiction of all substances.
As a 32 year old male from the inner city of Stockton Ca, substance use has been no stranger to me. With 9 years clean and 9 years a professional in this field, I may not have seen it all, but It would take a lot to surprise me when it comes to addiction. The longer I stayed in this field the more I learned, and the more I learned, the more I realized that although I do love helping addicts get clean, there is so much more that I want to accomplish. I realize that with my certification, my scope is incredibly limited, and with the size of my family, its not that I don’t have the time, but I just didn’t think it would serve me to make the time (and financial agreements) it would take to become a licensed mental health professional at this phase in my life. In my many hours working with my therapist, he was actually the one who referred me to this program, reporting that this is where counselors ad other mental health professionals go to become coaches, somewhat broaden their scope and have a little extra credibility behind them in doing so. My dream since getting clean has always been to practice privately, and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to do it.
I ended up buying the GROW courses, and taking my time while working a full-time job. Unfortunately I ended up finishing the coaching courses a little later than I had anticipated. However, I did work on a few other things to add to the services I can provide. I am now also trained in Brainspotting - not for trauma work but rather “coaching related” items, removing blockers towards goals and self sabotage, assisting clients in alleviating some of that ambivalence and so on. The last item on my list before opening a practice of my own was completing GROW's courses, which I did last week.
I truly did get a lot out of the GROW courses, helping me understand the true essence of coaching, the difference between coaching and counseling, and marketing strategies to set myself apart from others in this field. I greatly appreciate that someone out there was willing to take their time to carve out a clear path for people like me trying to make a transition and increase their quality of life. One of the biggest things that I took from these courses was something that truly boosted my confidence in taking the leap towards coaching which was understanding that I will be using the same skills I have now; value examination, SMART goals, affirmations, motivational interviewing etc, just with a different demographic. A demographic of individuals who are typically more affluent, already have established something for themselves and maybe come in with more motivation than the average addict who has “burned it all down” this made it clear to me that coaching will be my next step professionally.
Anyways, to get to the topic of what this essay is supposed to be all about.. 1 hour of coaching. To sum up my experience of 1:1’s and counseling and coaching, I guess you could say its the thing that gets me out of bed in the morning. I remember being a kid and inheriting the impossible task of figuring out what I would like to do when I grow up, for the rest of my life, day in and day out. Straight out of high school I went to culinary school, became a cook, hated it and turned to using substances to cope. Those substances led me to rehab, that rehab led me to counseling, and I will never forget a) my first therapy session as a client and b) my first session as a professional. There is nothing that I love doing more than assisting my fellow man in finding the answers that are already inside of him. Experiencing the moment when things click, when goals are achieved and potential is realized. When clients come to an understanding that their suffering as well as their peace and happiness is a choice to be made only by them. The thought of working with clients in a different light, broadening my scope, and having a different focus which is future based rather than trauma ridden history based is incredibly exciting to me.
To put it simply, even if I sent in my application and this company told me to “kick rocks”, I would dust my self off and keep chipping at a way to find some kind of certification for myself so I could get started in this field with a credible source behind me. Im 100% certain that coaching is going to be the next part of my journey professionally, and I am ever so grateful to have GROW behind me."
